GINNY WHITELAW PhD

Ginny Whitelaw is the author (with Betsy Wetzig) of Move to Greatness - Focusing the Four Essential Energies of a Whole and Balanced Leader. A biophysicist by training, she combines a rich scientific background with senior leadership experience, 15 years in coaching and leadership development, and nearly 30 years in Zen and martial arts. Together with Mark Kiefaber, she founded Focus Leadership, LLC, and also developed the Focus Energy Balance Indicator (FEBI), a unique personality measure of the four fundamental patterns interlinking mind, body and behavior. She has been an executive coach, faculty member and program director with Oliver Wyman’s Delta Executive Learning Center, as well as an adjunct faculty on Columbia University’s senior executive program. Dr. Whitelaw has taught and coached leaders in some of the world’s top companies, including Merck, Avon, Dell, XL Capital, Sprint, Cemex, EMC, Novartis, Medtronic, Marsh, and Bank of America.

Prior to that, Dr. Whitelaw spent 10 years at National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), eventually becoming the Deputy Manager for integrating the International Space Station Program. She led a large-scale change effort to re-align the management of the Space Station Program using cross-functional teams. Her work became a model for other NASA programs, and she was awarded NASA’s Exceptional Service Medal for her efforts.

She also has small and non-profit organization experience, having founded and run several companies, including two major training centers for Zen and Aikido. She is a Zen priest, a 5th degree black belt in Aikido, and teaches Zen meditation alongside her work as a management educator and executive coach. She holds a Ph.D. in Biophysics from the University of Chicago, as well as a B.S. in Physics and a B.A. in Philosophy from Michigan State University.

Ginny Whitelaw is a frequent and popular speaker at professional conferences and events. “Ginny’s workshop on the 4 patterns became the most talked about in the conference,” said the organizer of a recent Professional Coaches and Mentors Association event. In her presentation, Move to Greatness, Dr. Whitelaw takes us on an interactive journey through four fundamental patterns of the nervous system with countless practical applications for connecting inside with outside “walk with talk” and connecting the many worlds of our work. You’ll come away with a clear map for managing energy, connecting with clients, vitalizing teams, and overcoming “buts” (as in, “Good at making the numbers but hard on people.”). After learning about the patterns, you’ll see worlds connected in ways you never saw before, and more importantly, how you connect with all of it.
